DIY Pest Control Tips For Homeowners

Do you hear pests and critters creeping inside and outside your home?

Pest problems are a serious issue both for homeowners and renters since these issues don’t go away on their own. Oftentimes pest control companies may not be available right away or you live in an area that does not have a local pest control company. Nevertheless, there are still do-it-yourself pest control tips you can implement in and outside your home.

Here are DIY pest control tips you can use:

Clean Your Drains

Do you have a recurring issue with fruit flies? The weak link might be your drain. Tape some plastic wrap over it for several days and see if fruit flies start popping up. If you do see them, try pouring boiling water down them and scrubbing it thoroughly. This should prevent them from breeding in your drain.

Inspect Interior & Exterior for Holes or Openings

Bed bugs are really hard to rid of because they have a tendency to hide. Look for holes or openings in and outside of your home. Close holes before you may find them prior to extermination. This will keep any of the houses you are not exterminating.

Eliminate any Standing Water

Look around the house for any water and eliminate it. Pests love standing water like nothing else. Make sure you take care of any leaky pipes and keep all standing water in your home. Pests require water to thrive, so cutting off their supply will make your home less inviting.

Place Plants and Bushes Away from Your Home

When you plant bushes around your house, put them about 12 inches away from your home at a minimum. Many insects call this brush despite your efforts. Placing bushes too close to your entry points or windows can risk having them go inside your home.

Fix Water Leaks

If your water system has any leaks, fix them as soon as possible. Pests of all kinds need water and are attracted to leaks. They are able to detect drips from a long way off. Don’t cause your own infestation.

Throw Away Your Trash

It may sound simple, but throwing away your trash in a timely manner will help prevent any pests from entering your home. You can take things a step further and ensure your trash bins outside are picked up by the city regularly. This will ensure larger pests and rodents don't infest the exterior of your home.

No matter if you rent or own, you do not want to live with pests. Start getting rid of the pests inside your home. You have the power to rid your home of pests if you get started now before it gets even worse. Click here for more info.
